Mermaid Parade 2015
The Coney Island Mermaid Parade Portraits of 2015.
The Mermaid Parade of June 20th 2015.
On the road, the day was cloudy, checking my mobile before says it would be cloudy until around 3pm, there were some drizzles to a light shower after 10am, it wasn’t that much of a shower. It was a bit cool to a little chilly being so close to the beach. But anyway, this year looks like there were more people to me. Many new faces, since don’t forget a face that easy. Many people came out with their beautiful costumes with so many details it was mesmerizing, no matter the overcast that became a beautiful soft box for the many faces of the parade.
From the setting up of the street benches to the trophies for the best car and the mermaid costume that happened ahead of me it was great. It all happened on surf Ave to the boardwalk where things ended straight to the parachute tower.
I saw a few costumes I recognized last year but the high spirits in everyone well mostly everyone is really what this show was all about. It’s hard for me to say that there was an extremely small amount of people that didn’t look very happen to have their picture taken or even to be there on the spot. The over whelming joy of the crowd made it more than expected to be there, and it was a really great performance from them all.
A Brief History:
The Coney Island Mermaid Parade takes place every year in Coney Island, New York in mid-to-late June.
The tradition of the Coney Island Mermaid Parade began in 1983, when the first event of this kind was conceptualized and organized by Dick Zigun, who is sometimes dubbed the “Mayor of Coney Island”, and who was the founder of the non-profit arts group Coney Island USA.
The Mermaid Parade is held in celebration of the beginning of the summer season, and so it traditionally takes place on the Saturday closest to the calendar start of summer, regardless of the weather. The last six parades (up to 2013) were held on June 21, 2008; June 20, 2009; June 19, 2010; June 18, 2011; June 23, 2012; June 22, 2013. The 2014 parade is to be held on Saturday June 21st, starting at 1 pm.

They danced to the music shared some of their traditions small free gifts were handed out to the public from all sides of the streets. This was more than what I expected it to be this year. Even as things went rolling through the evening crowds gathered on the rides the thunderbolt and Nathans hot dog stand straight up to the aquarium were all crowds and they stood strong. Many cultures joined the fun and came together to share this time.
New York City is definitely the place where people of all cultures come together to share what they all have brought to this big strong City that many people that live here can learn a thing or two about each nationality, and because of this is one of the greatest reasons why New York can bounce back fast into action to either move forward and get things moving and to adapt with the rapid changing times.
The details and work done by all these people were outstanding, I have asked most of them and they all did their own designs all the way. These are only a few that I choose to share at this time, so everyone can have a idea on what the show was really all about and how colorful it all was.
