Blizzard of 2016 – New York

The Blizzard of 2016.

The first blizzard of 2016.
Passion keeps the flow flowing, by Ashtonesia, the first Blizzard of 2016, as I happen to move around too many areas as I can, over 5 miles of walking today 6hrs on the road, it wasn’t that bad until the last hrs before I headed in from the cold.

Visibility was pretty much the worse as my goggles was getting fogged from too much heat coming from the body. I was out pretty much before most people in this city even wake to make another day, the air pretty much had a voice of its own, the wind chill was to the bone. I’m not very good in the cold as my small hands takes most of the beating. The wind and ice can freeze you in minutes, there were many points I couldn’t see a thing as the snow and the wind combines together in a very harsh rain like fall and the wind is strong enough to push you down if you’re walking down on a slope or even knock your camera phone out of your hands.

If you put things over edges from high places you could be asking for problems, also, walking along the bridges especially the Manhattan, the accumulated snow that builds and builds as the snowplow trucks move across the bridge big chunks would fall onto the pedestrian walkway that will hit you in the head, with shower down on you as well.

As the light became brighter through the morning people became visible, and cars also were a bit more on the streets, I didn’t see kids until much later into the day with their parents and pets but most of the morning there were nothing.
I’m very use to not seeing many people anymore due to my change of time when I shoot, it really makes New York not look like this busy city that most are used to.

The images are some of what I ran into, most were shot the way they are at random, allot of things I missed as well but there are more to come anyway. As it hit around 2:30pm EST there was a Travel Ban in the city, this is what they say that will keep people of the streets especially drivers.

A Brief History:
I started doing the blizzard just to out in the cold. I always liked the cold weather growing up, watching the nature channels of animals in the wild, it became a challenge just to be out there and for how long can I stay out in the cold for. So, I just decided since I’m out there hanging in the cold, I should take my camera and get some action and daily activities of different stuff going on when people travel and move around the city.

This concept will be taken with me everywhere I go where there’s change of weather, in winter and in storms. 👣 👣

Album Set 1♥♥

  • Man waiting on Bus

  • Two guys, one carrying some stuff across the street

  • People scramble as they wait for the bus and some run in for the train before the massive delays begin

  • A woman takes her time as the high snow is difficult to walk in

  • Plows pushes snow to the side I had to make a dash for it

  • Very high winds tossed trash cans

  • It was not a joke battling the wind tunnel here

Album Set 2♥♥

  • It was a walk I did into Manhattan

  • A route to the Manhattan bridge was no easy step getting onto

  • Poor visibility across the Brooklyn Bridge

  • The full length was not clear to see due to the impact of the snow coming down

  • Traffic entering Manhattan was very little as there were a emergency for vehicles to keep off the roads

  • City workers clean paths in Chinatown

  • The path across the Manhattan bridge, snow was falling off the top as plows clear the bridge
